Dell Seeing More Changes - Employee Layoffs - No More TV’s

Dell seems to be continuing on its reorganization mode and is trimming their work force. Estimates are that between 7,000 and 10,000 jobs will be cut. In addition to the cuts, Dell it is rumored will also be getting out of the TV business as well. This seems like sound judgment on their part. They have recently also discontinued selling their Dell PDA’s as well.
On several of the forums there are people who have alleged to have bought the new Linux-Dell computers systems. If these postings are any indication of how well the the new units will fair, they appear to be selling like hotcakes. However, I have seen in the past where some people like to join in the hype of a new product release, and in reality have not really purchased the hardware. So it is to early to tell how well these new units are really selling.
Dell did clarify that one minor glitch on their site accidentally removed the extended warranty options for the Linux systems. But that has been corrected, and yes, you can get a longer warranty on the Linux boxes if you wish to do so.
The biggest change that Dell seems to be making is expanding outside of the US. Over the past few months Dell has made deals in other countries in which they appear to be trying to get a toe hold. Most notably has been their ventures into China and India, both are huge retail markets.
So it looks like Dell is really trying to get it right. Only time will tell if they succeed or not.
Comments welcome.
