Dell Linux Machines Have Arrived

Just a quick note:

Dell has posted their first Linux offerings using the Ubuntu operating system with two desktops and one laptop for starters. This is going to be very interesting to see what happens now. One of my concerns has come true. Pricing for the Linux boxes are on par with pricing for a Vista machine. Which is interesting since Vista does cost more than Ubuntu. However, you my recall that OEMs receive generous stipends from the crapola software companies for including their software on new Vista machines, something that Linux doesn’t do.

So no more waiting. Dell has made good on their promise to provide Linux boxes for the masses. You can take a look at the new machines here.

I personally hope that Dell is successfull in this new venture. Especially since the Linux crowd screamed and yelled about this for so long. Now the ball is in their court.

Ron,

Yes I would , Seems expensive for Free Dos and Ubuntu. I have heard that Microsoft gives big incentives to manufacturers to install windows. Curious to see if any reprocussions come from not having windows only installed.

You are right about one thing. Dell has done the Linux crowd a favor. Will the Linux geeks support Dell?

Many years ago Tigerdirect had a Linux based system. They advertized and pushed them like crazy. I ended up buying two of them when the price got so low that it was sad. It was a good system, I used it for years at home. But Tiger could not give them away. I was told at the time that I could buy two for the price of one. Thats what I did!

Lets hope that Dell does not get stuck with a two for one sale. Its been a lot of years since the Tigerdirect attempt. Mayby the Linux fans are ready to put their pocket books where their mouths are……..
