Zonbu Follow Up - It Is For Real!

I just got back from San Francisco last night after an evening of being tortured at Chicago O’Hare airport.
But I was finally able to get a flight home and in checking on the comments, I had received a message from Gregiore Gentil, who is the founder of Zonbu asking I take a look at his site.
This is what he wrote:
I’m the founder of Zonbu and I would like to invite you to our Web site so that you can realize that Zonbu is real and really cool.
After looking at the information posted on the site, it does appear that Zonbu is for real, and looks very promising. The site states:
Welcome to a new generation of environmentally responsible computing. Zonbu is ready to go right out of the box. All you need is a broadband connection. Nothing to install. Nothing to buy. Nothing but fun and foolproof ways to get more out of your digital life.
Starting at $99 (*) and with plans at $12.95 a month, Zonbu is the low-cost, zero-maintenance computer. And it includes over $2,000 worth of pre-installed applications. It’s so affordable and trouble-free, in fact, that everyone in the family can have one. Add one to the kids’ room, your workshop hideaway, the family room, or your vacation home.
This small wonder consumes just one-tenth the power of a typical desktop machine — which means you save on electricity bills and you save the planet by reducing CO2 emissions. And, by eliminating fans and hard drives, advanced Zonbu is completely silent, a nice plus for your home environment, too.
I look forward to seeing Zonbu in action and maybe, just maybe, Gregiore will be kind enough to send me a unit once they are available to play with. Hint-hint.
Take a look and see what you think.
Zonbu here.

Ron,
Its neat but……
Thats the analytical person in me. I went ahead and signed up and want more information. I do not like the thought of someone else haveing all my information downloaded on their severs. even as back up?
I am waiting to hear what you think after you get all the information. I think they should let you have a unit to try.
The web site is very uninformative. I want specs on the computer. etc. etc.

Hi Kyle,
Agree about leaving your personal stuff on anyone’s server. Thoughts run thru my head like, wonder if these folks go belly up? Then what?
Like you, I like spec’s as well. Telling me how great and wonderful something is seems like PR hype.
Thanks, Ron

To reply the messages, the website will be open next week (5/21). We had an initial phase when only bloggers and reviewers could access information about Zonbu so as to give them an exclusivity.
As for a testing device for Ron, he is on the list. I can’t guarantee anything but his registration as a blogger will be considered.

Ron,
I have looked the site over carefully. It sounds like a good idea. The price is reasonable. Things like 3 year replacement of computer system.
My problem is I like toys and This sounds like a fun toy. But not sure if I feel its more than a toy.
I would be curious if you got to trial one and able to give a good assestment of it.
It is such a new concept that people have nothing to base it against.
I like It!
