Some Short Takes On Computer Stuff - May 13, 2007

HP & Windows XP - Dell isn’t the only vendor that still offers Windows XP on their systems. I received the May 2007 lineup from HP computer magazine and noted a business notebook with XP. Here.

Dual Boot Vista & XP - A reader suggested hiding the Vista partition in XP so correct the lost restore points that disappear in Vista after booting into XP. Didn’t work. :-(

Microsoft MSN Hotmail Replaced - Microsoft is replacing MSN Hotmail with Microsoft Windows Live Hotmail. The MSN accounts will remain for awhile. But Microsoft hasn’t mentioned when all of the changes will be completed.

Russian School Teacher fined - The Russian school teacher who was caught with 12 school computers running illegal copies of Windows has been fined about $150 by a Russian court. He plans to appeal.

1985 Dell Computer - A 1985 Dell computer #100 has made its way to the Smithsonian as a piece of history.

Vista Drains Batteries - There have been several posts on the Net that allege that Vista is draining batteries on laptops. Has anyone experienced this first hand?

Vista Beta Receive No Updates - Microsoft says that users of Vista beta do not receive any security updates.

Apple Laptops - Apple laptops top 9.9% of laptop sales. Interesting.

Ebay second chance - the ‘69 Dodge Charger from the Dukes of Hazard is back up for auction. The first winning bidder claims his account was hacked.

MySpace Crook Captured - Seems a escaped con checked his MySpace account from a public library and was nabbed by the cops. Back in the slammer for 75 years. I’m sure he’ll get a lot of ’social networking’ and make some hot connections in the joint. :-)

Yahoo Auctions Last Hammer - Seems that the Yahoo auction site will close next moth.

Dell Joins The Linux Party - Seems that Dell has joined up with Microsoft and Novell. Mikey wants to ‘dance all night’ with the big boys also.

I have a feeling if that Russian teacher had done the same thing in the U.S. it would of been far more dire. I am glad however to see the judicial system work well there now.
