Interesting But Pricey - HP TouchSmart IQ770 PC

Thursday evening the wife was invited over to one of the neighbors to attend a jewelry party. Us husbands know what these kinds of parties usually mean. It is a obligation to make a purchase of a jewelry that you don’t need or want just to keep peace in the hood. It was bad enough I had to record Survivor so the wife and I could watch it later, when the phone rang and the wife asked to me come over because she wanted to show me something. First thought, this is going to cost me money since I thought she wanted to buy something expensive.
Nope. Wrong guess. She wanted to show me a computer the neighbors had sitting in their kitchen. It was a HP TouchSmart IQ770 PC that I must admit, looked very stylish sitting on the kitchen counter. Spec’s included a AMD dual core, 2G Ram and a hefty 320G hard disk. A Nvidia 7600 graphics card with TV tuner is also included in the unit. This system also comes with a wireless keyboard, mouse and remote. A stylus is also included for those that do not want to see a gazillion pinky prints on the screen. Oh yes, the screen is a 19 incher with a nice bright clear display and the operating system is Vista Home premium.
The owner of the HP showed me what this unit could do like keep track of appointments, photo albums, and she had cataloged all of her recipes as well. She also showed how she could watch TV on the unit, play music, and some other features that most all computers can do, but I shook my head politely dropping in a ‘that’s nice’ here and there. This woman likes to talk a lot. LOL
Not being familiar with this model computer, and being somewhat curious, I asked what the unit had cost. With tax and license they paid a little over $2100 for the unit. Several thoughts flashed through my head. First, I wonder if these people own any swamp land in Florida. Second, this would be the perfect couple to buy the broken lawn mower I have sitting in my garage. I might even make a small profit on the deal. Third, I don’t think HP is going to see people lined up at the door to buy these with a price tag that high.
You can take a look at this unit from HP here.
For $2100 bucks you could buy a great laptop system that could do what the IQ770 does, plus have mobility, and when company came over you could hide the unit in a kitchen draw. IMHO.
Comments welcome.

Don’t be so green lol. I seen it and like it. My thing is if you have the money why not it’s a good computer and it looks great. I have two laptops that are great but i will be purchasing this as my desktop. Oh and by the way a laptop dosen’t have the touch screen:)

Yeah, sounds you are a little too optimistic on Notebook/Laptop performance.
The videocard mentioned above is far faster than anything you can bee on a notebook , except you pay the same price. The TV watching and recording is the same story. Yeah, also the screen size. you can by 17″ laptops, but the price again?
I know, that how Laptop business nowadays increases, but I think alot of people just do not see, how limited they are.
Remark: I have a DELL laptop from my company (C2 Duo, wifi, etc), but still in favour using my home Shuttle SN95 Barebone with my 19″ TFT, as laptop has only 15.1″. For web browsing and Excel it is just too small.

You may say, that you could buy Laptops with Nvidia 7600 or 7800, but please also check the specs!
Usually they deactivate some pixel pipelines, or switch off shader modules to save power. So even on the same name you get in Laptops a reduced functionality.
