Microsoft Outlook 2003 - Create A Signature - Tutorial

It happens to all of us. A friend or family member asks us for instruction on how to do something on the computer, which we know will not only be difficult to explain, but also time consuming. We also know from past experiences that this will also result in a flood of emails being sent back and forth, trying to fine tune or answer questions. Having been there, done that, over the years, I usually try to take advantage of the resources of the Internet since someone, some, where may have already done a tutorial on the subject.

So it was when I received a email from a family member who started out praising my signature and logo I use in sending out emails from MS Outlook. After the glowing comments came the ‘I’d like to do the same thing, can you show me how?” message. No problem. Since I add a new signature everyday to my emails, let me walk you through the three steps it takes. RIGHT! First I would have to go back through the steps to refresh my brain cells on how to do it, then try to convey a step by step procedure covering every option that is available. My mind raced as I thought of the countless hours I would be spending trying to get this done.

Doing a Google I located a Microsoft tutorial site that did the work for me. Not only were the steps covered for many of the different procedures, but the tutorial covered items such as:

  • Create your own great-looking signatures.
  • Assign a signature to a message.
  • Switch to a different signature while writing a message.
  • Use different signatures for different e-mail accounts.

So upon sending the link, I waited patiently for several days, see what questions may arise. Guess what? I got a email thanking me for the link and the simple instructions. Included in the email was a great looking signature complete with a logo. Nice job. Plus a real time saver for me.

I have used this method for at least 5yr now.
When I answer a question I keep a copy of it and expand it into a little tut. This way if it is asked again I can just sent the tut. Saves loads of time.
I also have a list of at least 50 web sites that have either free programs or info on problems.

Hi Ben,
Thanks for sharing your experience with us and also for posting your comments. Ron
