Fresh UI – From Fresh Devices – Free

Posted by on Apr 18, 2007 | 6 Comments

Here is another one of those emails ‘have you tried this software yet.’ This one is called Fresh UI from Fresh Devices and is a freebie. Nope, never heard of it nor tried it, but I guess I will. Over to Fresh Devices web site to take a look at the product. Fresh Devices states that their products is:

“Fresh UI is a fresh solution for configuring and optimizing Windows. Loaded with hundreds of useful hidden settings in Windows XP/2000/NT/ 98/95/Me, this software covers the customizing and optimizing techniques that you’ll be glad to know, such as:

  • Customizing Windows User Interface (UI)
  • Optimizing system settings
  • Optimizing hardware settings
  • Customizing Windows application settings
  • Controlling user environment with policies

Fresh UI is organized by section for easy navigation and completed with detail descriptions for easy reference.

Supported Operating System:
Windows 95, Windows 95 OSR2, Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP.”

Sounded impressive so I downloaded and took it for a spin. You have to register with Fresh Devices to get a registration number to fully use their tweaker or any of their other products. Once that was completed I navigated around Fresh UI. Well I must admit that this is a highly configurable tweaking tool. This puts Microsoft’s TweakUI way behind the flow.

One of the things that I noticed and I found of interest was something I believe a system builder might find useful. We have all had a client or two that likes to go into to Control Panel and play with the settings. I had one person who wanted larger icons so they tweaked the settings to 72 points. Everything was so screwed up you couldn’t even get to the Start button. LOL. I was able to repair the settings with a admonishment of not to play around anymore. But a few weeks later I was back again with another repair for a tweak that went bad.

Anyway, there are plenty of tweaks available and there is something for everyone. Oh, they even have a tweak for playing Hearts in which by pressing 4 keys at once, you can view your opponents hand. Now that’s important! Enjoy. :-)

Fresh UI download here.

Comments welcome.

PS Be careful using any type of tweaker. It could have undesired affects to your system. Make sure you write down the tweaks you employ for future reference. And a restore point would be nice also.

Sounds like a great little tool as I enjoy mucking with stuff, even sometimes the stuff I should stay well away from ;) . Unfortunately I ended up with this….

    Hello Jason,
Sounds like they may have been having server problems at the time you subscribed. I’d try again.
    Thanks for the comments, Ron

I installed fresh ui and tried 3 times to register with fresh devices but never got a response. tried emailing the support address, also without a response. No spam filters or anything of that nature. However a few days later my outgoing mail was shut down by my isp because my ip address was hijacked. This was the only site I sent email to and the only download that I had. I would love to use this tool but am very wary of their site.

    Hi Dave,
Suggestion: Have you tried using a different computer with a different ISP to register?

    Basically…
too high/too low contrast = eliminates middle colors
too high/too low brightness = wash out colors

  • Anonymous

Contrast = The ratio between Black to White, The Black to White ratio scale
Brightness = Luminance, the average of lightness to darkness of the overall luminance

Note; a video screen can only be as black as the screen is with no video “off”. For example take an older CRT that was grayish in hue when off, that is the darkest black ratio you can have when the screen is lit, anything you see is black is “fooling” your eyes into thinking your seeing black, based on the black to white ratio.
