More Dell Stuff - Still Struggling For A Comeback

When things go bad, they continue to go bad, and even get worse sometimes. Dell must be starting to feel this way as each day brings about more problems for the PC giant. Plus some changes as well.
It appears that Dell not only has some accounting problems to straighten out, plus being accused of taking kick backs from Intel, but the also has a problem with the Securities and Exchange Commission and NASDAQ for not filing their annual report on time. Dell indicates it is investigating some allegations of malfeasance and possible deficiencies in their accounting department. What does this mean? Sounds to me like the books do not balance. Oops!
Dell has pulled their Axim hand held devices off of their web site. It appears the model will not be sold any longer. For those who have purchased the devices accessories are still be listed and I would guess support will still be available for those who own a Axim that is still under warranty.
For those that were hoping for a early release of Linux boxes, this may not be the case as originally hoped for. Dell may have some problems developing or have developed drivers for their specific hardware needs. If Dell still pans on using a version of Linux it may take some time before this can be accomplished. So I do not believe we will see a Linux box before the third quarter or possibly longer.
So what does all of this mean? Dell has about 12.5 billion in the bank. So Dell is far from closing shop. In fact some Wall street observers are giving the green light to Dell and the company is slated for a huge turn around in 2008. Though 2007 may still be a bumpy ride, Dell has a lot left to offer. But everyone will keep their eyes upon Michael Dell to see how he does and if the company can come from behind and pull a upset of sorts.
It is ironic that this is what happened to Gateway. When the founding father turned over the reins to a CEO and board of directors, Gateway took a nose dive. And even the founder of Gateway couldn’t stop the slide and make a comeback. Even with Gateway buying eMachines, they were never able to return to a position of competitiveness. Which shows how fickle we consumers can be.
What’s your take. Can Dell bring back the magic that made it a PC leader?
