Vista – Networking Problems – Try This

Posted by on Apr 9, 2007 | 2 Comments

This is going to sound strange, since it makes little sense, but it MAY just work in getting your Microsoft Windows Vista machine[s] to network with other operating systems on a home network, in particular Windows XP machines.

Turn off the firewall on all machines. Your shares on other XP machines should then become apparent. Map your share drives and install any printers while the firewalls are off. Once you have all shares and printers setup, turn back on the firewalls. Hopefully this should work for you.

Reboot all systems to confirm everything is working correctly.

Another thing to try is switching the network from “private” to “public”
This worked for me. Your mileage may vary. :-)

If anyone has any suggestions about networking with Vista, please post your comments.

Great Great article! will send a link to any Mac haters that I know that always say they cost to much. Well there is a big reason why your paying so much for one. Its like buying a luxury car. you get all the little, and extra things you wouldn’t get in a cheap car, and the build quality is much better.

Nice, I’ve always wanted to try this… but had concerns. Perhaps when I get my iPhone 5 I will give it a shot on my iPhone 3GS. Or.. if @ThinkGeek ever decides to sell iCade in Canada… then I will do my iPad to run MAME. =)
