Wrong Headline – Apple Has Been Selling Computers At Best Buy – Just Expanding

Posted by on Apr 5, 2007 | 2 Comments

The headlines read “Best Buy To Sell Apple Computers”. Sorry folks, Best Buy has been selling Apple Computers since last fall. What the headline should of been was that Best Buy is expanding the sales of Apple systems to some 200 retail outlets. OK. I know. I’m just being picky. :-)

But what I find really interesting is that we have to look at everything that is happening in the PC world.

Let’s start with Dell. They are trying to get out of a spiral free fall of failing sales, bad customer support and if you believe the headlines, some type of accounting problem. Dell seems to think that selling Linux boxes may help. Plus Michael told Austek the makers of Asus mobo’s and their own brand of laptops to knock it off if they wished to continue to build Mickey’s computers.

And HP has weathered their own scandal, which was kind of laughable as far as scandals go, where even the previous HP CEO was exonerated of all wrong doing. Plus HP is now the top dog shouting ‘we’re number one’. Which is no biggie since they should of been number one back when HP-Compaq merged, but I guess we don’ talk about that.

Acer may be thinking about buying Gateway up and taking the number three seed spot if they manage the merge. Which will slim down the pickings of boxes we consumers must chose from.

IBM is still laughing all the way to the bank after palming off their dying laptop business to Lenovo which still hasn’t found a niche in the US market place. Anybody buy a Lenovo recently? Just curious.

So what does all of this mean? Not a clue. My crystal ball is in the shop for repairs and won’t be ready to be picked up until next Monday. But it could mean that more people may be trying Apple systems now that Best Buy is expanding sales of the system and of course who could not take notice of those cute Apple vs PC ads. And if Vista fails to draw a huge crowd, Apple could make a comeback of sorts. Just maybe.
What is your take?

Comments welcome.

Bought and installed Vista. If this is best of MS, am going to buy Apple as next computer. Vista stinks and has not gotten very much support from hardware Mfgs.either. HP says they MIGHT have Vista drivers for my two printers ready for release by end of July! Vista is also resource hog of memory both of machine and Video card. Am saving pennys now for my Apple!!!
