It sure is a small world. One day you’re just planning on hanging out on the Big Island of Hawaii and the next you’re rubbing shoulders with Michael Dell. Unbelievable. I read today that Micheal Dell, as part of a family trust, purchased the Kona Village for a undisclosed amount. Which is coincidental, because my wife and I are going to be vacationing on the Big Island later this summer.

We have already booked our reservations at the Hilton Resort and also have completed our reservations for our own private jet flight. Oh, the good life. It took a lot of hard work for me to reach this point in my life, countless hours struggling to fix computers, making service calls, installing and uninstalling software, fussing with Windows, experimenting with Linux, and generally getting to play with new hardware of all sorts. But now it is time to reap the benefits of my toil.

Yep, the wife and I have a United Miles One Card which we use to charge stuff we buy and racked up enough miles for a couple of free flights. And because we are so generous, we allow some 300 or so other passengers to join us on our private jet and we also throw in a few meals and snacks. Heck, we even allow the flight crew to wait on them as well as ourselves. So the other passengers won’t feel too offended, we even let them pay their own way.

So this summer, while we are basking in the sun, we might see Michael hanging around the pool. Or maybe at one of the hot tourist spots on the Big Island. After all, we both share something in common. He builds computer systems and I keep them up and running. We are like close buds. I’ve even spoken to some of his employees at tech support. How close is that?

So, Mike, see you in Hawaii this summer, dude. I’ll be the guy in the flowered Hawaiian shirt, shorts with polar bear white legs (we don’t get much sun where I live), and wearing sunblock 92+.
