Linux - This Site Is Great - Why Linux Is Better

Yesterday I posted a request over at Scot’s Newsletter Forum, in the Linux section, asking for some opinions about how one would approach showing that Linux could rival Windows. And one of the posters who uses the moniker Urmas from Helsinki, FI, posted a link to a website which I found to be absolutely great.
The writer presents a rational and thoughtful comparison of Linux, but not as it compares to Windows, but uses the comparison to show what Windows lacks. And in doing so, he shows how Linux can stand on it’s own two feet. Yes, Penguins have feet.
As I went through the website, it became very apparent that the site is well designed and also the writer has spent many hours in compiling the information presented. And without me trying to explain everything that the site contains, I highly recommend you take a look for yourself.
For those who may be considering switching from Windows to Linux, I think this site is a must read.
And some of my friends from Scot’s Newsletter Forum wanted me to make sure that I mentioned that new users should try a Live CD distribution first, so as not to lose their data, and to also confirm that their system hardware is fully supported.

A real step forward. Desktop people have a different motivation for using Linux, or for not using Linux. It has to be better than Windows, which means more “pleasant” than Windows.
I’m really impressed with Ubuntu, but once again the old non-Windows problems have arisen. Flash is poorly supported for Linux, particularly the latest version. It’s not the fault of any of the Linux folks, of course. Flash is closed-source and the owners, for perfectly good business reasons, haven’t put a lot of resources into to getting it working for Linux. However… flash is a big part of web content and many sites use flash to stream media and do all sorts of animation and sound content.
With Ubuntu, I think we’re seeing the beginning of the end for the Windows monopoly. In a few years, as Ubuntu grows its userbase the commercial software community will start to include Linux as part of their development process. And things will start to work better with Linux, because manufacturers will have access to all the source code of the operating system and can tailor-make their drivers and applications in ways they can’t with Windows.
I didn’t know Linux didn’t need to be defragmented. I spent some time trying to find a defragmenter and gave up.

manmohan,
Yes you can dual-boot both Windows and Linux on the same system. However, some distributions do a better job at this than do others.
If you do decide to try a dual boot, please go over to Scot’s Newsletter forum, in the Linux section and seek help prior to trying this.

The last thing you would want is to lose your Windows partition. Also try a LIVE CD first to make sure that your hardware is compatible. PCLinuxOS is a good distro to try firts, using the LIVE CD.

I am downloading Ubuntu Linux Live CD right now, and ready to burn it. I hope it works!
I’ve read different websites on why Linux is actually, better and outmanuevers Windows in some simple steps. I love the Open Source stuff…
Another thing that really attracted me was the whole eye candy wizzle wazzle. Which was pretty good.
Hope it works fine for me.

Hello Zero Ziat,
Let us all know what you think about Ubuntu Linux. They also have a great forum should you need help with the distro. And over at Scot’s Newsletter Forum - Linux section is a group of resident experts that are fantastic and I highly recommend them if you need help as well.
