Dell - Microsoft Windows Vista Upgrades Shipping - Sound Drivers Also For Some

Just a quick note:
Over at the Dell blog there is a announcement that Vista upgrade disks should be shipping shortly. The kit will contain 2 DVD’s, one for the Vista operating system itself and a second DVD with help to assist the user with the install, including drivers.
Some of you have mentioned that you were having trouble getting your Vista upgrade since the Dell system would not register your service tag number correctly. Well on Dell’s blog they are asking you to submit comments with your email address so that Dell support can get a hold of you.
Just curious? Has anyone bought a non-Dell system, i.e. HP, Acer, Gateway, or other OEM system and have you had the same problem getting the disks or new drivers? Or is it just Dell that seems to be having a problem?
Comments welcome.

I was able to install it with a clean install and not as an upgrade, even though it said upgrade.I made a mistake and installed the 2nd cd with all garbage I don’t want on my computer.I reinstalled it again. It had every driver but the sound card driver which I installed from the website.I was able to install word and roxio 9 from the 2nd cd without putting all the junk back on.This is just a little sempron 3300 with 1 gig ram.It runs about the same speed and boot time.It might be a little slower but not much. The battery life seems to be about 25% less than xp.I have a second sata hard drive for my dell, waiting for the vista upgrade.I was able to install it from the hp upgrade with no problem,it never ask for a qualifying product nor did it check the bios to see what kind of computer it was.I was able to install word and roxio, but because I don’t have a key yet BECAUSE DELL SUCKS.I deleted the hard drive. On dell upgrade my order said pending for months. Then 10 days ago it said processing but they still have not sent it.Dell couldn’t care less about their customers and some day it will catch up to them. With all the trouble Ive had with my dimension e520 and they lack of support and the disappearing dsr partition, I will NEVER BUY ANOTHER DELL.

I bought a Dell with Vista recently. So far, I have had nothing but problems with it, spending over 2 hours on the phone because it wasn’t completely upgraded when they sent it to me. Next time, I definitely won’t be buying without extensive research!

Hi William,
I just checked on Dells site. No updated drivers for your model as of yet. I recall waiting 7 months for software from HP for my all-in-one when I upgraded from 2000 to XP.
