Make Free Calls Right From Your Computer
Yesterday I received a email from Michael Robertson [Linspire] in which he is introducing a new phone service called GizmoCall. Unlike other phone services that requires a complete software download, GizmoCalls uses a Flash plug-in that allows any user to make calls through their browser. The format is simple and easy to use.
Limitations: Registered callers are allowed just 10 minutes a day of calls to test out the system. Eventually free calls will be allowed for longer periods of time, once the system is setup to incorporate advertising.
System requirements:
“Adobe Flash 9 for Microsoft Windows or Apple Macintosh web browsers.
- Gizmo Call utilizes Adobe Flash 9 Player for calls to occur. Download the latest version of the flash player by visiting www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer
Microphone and speakers, we recommend using a headset..
- Users need a microphone and speakers in order to make calls using Gizmo Call.
Personal Computer requirements include
- Windows
- Windows 2000, XP
- Microphone and Speakers
- Dialup or Broadband Connection
- Macintosh
- Mac OS X 10.3.9 +
- Microphone
- Dialup or Broadband Connection”
If you have never tried internet telephony, I would also recommend a headset, which improves the sound quality over trying to use a microphone and speakers. And using a dial-up connection may produce inferior results compared to a broadband connection.

Well it is time for me to break down and get a headphone.
Once I have this setup, I’ll be reporting back how well it works or doesn’t work.
Has anyone tried this yet? Let us know. Comments are welcome.
