Drive Sentry is a program from Drive Sentry, Inc. that the software manufacture describes as being a firewall to protect your important files from being changed, and only only trusted programs to write to your hard disk. They also indicate that Drive Sentry with it’s patent pending technology will also stop viruses, Trojans and malicious code from doing damage to your drives as well. Sounded interesting so I downloaded a free copy of their Lite version.
The program itself comes in Zip format, and once unzipped was ready to install. I should mention that the install package is only 1.4 MB in size. Installation went smoothly.
This is a very easy program to use. You can setup which folders to monitor, and Drive Sentry even has the default folders for My Documents, already setup. Also the software found and setup the programs associated with the documents that have previously been setup. And in checking the resources, since there was a tray icon that auto starts with Windows, the software used very little resources.
Trial limitations - some of the features were disabled by default and warned me I needed the pro version of the software. I’m not a big fan of software that doesn’t allow you to test all of the features without buying it. I would recommend to Drive Sentry a full feature trial with a time limit instead. Because of these limitations, I wasn’t able to fully test everything that the software offers.
However, I can make a very general recommendation that Drive Sentry, may offer paid users, some additional protections in protecting their computers, and is well worth a look.
