Google Plus BPL - Rumor

Another rumor with some teeth to it is that Google has not only provided monetary support for startups in the BPL field, but that Google may be considering a BPL future.
BPL = Broadband over Power Lines.
How it works. Basically it is a technology that has emerged which uses our power grid connected to our homes and businesses, to transmit data in a range, which should be about equal to DSL and cable in performance. Some say even faster. The connectors are plugged into our electrical outlet to setup a network presence. And a wireless network can also be connected to the wired network as well, if needed. And since the electrical services and connections are already in place, this should reduce the cost of installation.
And during the Consumer and Electronics Show in Las Vegas this month, one of the newer kids on the block demonstrated their stuff in the BPL field showing that they had the equipment and technology all set to go. See DS2 website here. And check out the speeds.
So the new rumor is that Google is looking into BPL as well as other broadband possibilities for their new Googlenet. Is there anything Google isn’t looking into?

Broadband on the phone line, cable tv line, and now the electrical line…
I predict: “Broadband over water lines”. Household water pipes, copper, plastic, concrete water mains, even. Of course, salt water will work better. Wireless broadband transmission available to any ocean going vessel or shoreline with a direct connection to the sea or immersed in sea water. In built up areas, on land, periods of heavy rain may cause multiple signal interference (like multi-path on tv).
Let’s see if Google starts to buy up water utilities…
