Great Questions - No Great Answers
I was just over at the forums, looking for some stimulating resources for another post, when I stumbled on a great question with no great answers. Which brought to mind some of the other great questions I have seen in the past with no great answers as well. What qualifies as a great question? One that will normally end up in verbal assaults that questions the IQ of a member with a difference of opinion, or maybe one’s pedigree, or one’s ancestry, with the results being that a moderator must either close the discussion or delete posts and then warn those members who have stepped over the line.
Then the moderator is accessed of being biased and slammed by a member, which results in a suspension or termination from the forums, and now you have everybody ticked off. And all because of a simple question. How do I know this? Because I moderate several groups and have fallen into the trap once to often.
So get your paper and pens or pencil ready because I’ll show you how to start WW III with a simple question:
- Who makes the better processor Intel or AMD ?
- Who makes a better OS - Apple or Microsoft?
- Who makes the better computer __________ or ________ ? [Fill in the blanks with any name brand system.]
- I just bought a __________ computer with Windows __________ on it. Can I transfer the license to another system? [Fill in the blanks with anything you can think of. The question won’t matter after a few posts since the fur will start to fly.]
- My computer won’t _________ . Why? [Again just fill in the blank with anything, like Start, Shutdown, Make me coffee in bed, anything will do. By being so vague and providing little or no information, such as which operating system you are using, type of computer, some hardware hints……….. will usually illicit a harsh first posting. followed by a second post chastising the first poster, resulting in a brawl.]
Now aren’t you glad that I have blessed you with all of this insider information. You can be the first on your block to join a forum and post any of the above questions and sit back and watch the results. Exception - you will not join any of the forums I belong to and pull this on me. At least I hope not. ![]()
