Linux - I Finally Found One I Really Like

  • No Related Post

Over the years I have tried many versions of Linux, each with its good and bad points, and each with its own special user interface. And I have learned how to update and install programs, usually with the help of a Linux guru to assist me.

Then I had to take a really hard look at myself and make a command decision on just how serious I was about even thinking about using Linux for day-to-day use. Over the years I would try a Linux distribution, suffer through the learning curve, only to find myself back using Windows. And it wasn’t because Linux was bad and Windows was better, I was just too lazy to learn something new.

Then a few months ago I saw Freespire being advertised, which is a free version of Linspire. I had briefly used Linspire when it was Lindows and actually found it very close to Windows. What I especially liked was the CNR (Click-’N-Run) feature that made installing software totally painless. And then Freespire was also going to be able to take advantage of CNR for free.

So I thought I would give it a try. Installation was simple with very little user intervention. Setup went smoothly and everything worked right from the start. Even connecting to my wireless network worked. What a pleasant surprise. And CNR made installing software a breeze. You just select what programs you want to use and the download and installation are done for you.

I haven’t used Freespire much since I started testing and running Vista, but I will be using it again really soon. I really think this may be a good Linux choice for us lazy Windows users looking for a change of scenery. Freespire 2.0 is in the works.
