Microsoft And Free Laptops – Quick Follow-up

I just read a commentary in the Seattle Times that best described why Microsoft giving away free laptops made such a stink. “It was just the kind of story to fill the news vacuum in the week between Christmas and New Year’s.”

Isn’t that true? It always seems that between Christmas and New Year’s, everyone is either busy celebrating the holidays or are on vacation away from their desks.

But the one I liked best was from Julia of the Cleveland Leader who wrote: “I accept bribes, unlike some of these other bloggers who are complaining about you giving them cool new toys.” Funny, Julia. I also liked your other thoughts and I hope Santa takes the time to send the laptop you wanted.

So it looks like it is time to move on. We have all had a few chuckles and will always wonder why a giveaway of something for free caused such a stir. Maybe it is just our distrust of large corporations and the undue influence they can exert on people. Or maybe we are just jealous we didn’t get a free laptop. :-)

What Do You Think?
