Rumor - Microsoft Gives Away Free Laptops With Vista

Before you get all excited and want to know how and where to get a free laptop with Vista preinstalled, you need to understand the ins and outs to this rumored giveaway. First of all, the rumor goes that certain people on the Internet who have written articles about Vista in general (bloggers), with a vast audience are the ones receiving this gift.
The story has it that these super fast systems (I heard they are from Acer with AMD chips) are being provided with Vista so that once the user has tested the new operating system they will - it is hoped - write a glowing report. Again, this is all rumor. Though some reports have indicated this is in fact true, I haven’t seen anything from anyone being posted on the Internet which says they have actually received one of these units.
And like any rumor, we must be cautious in determining the motives of those who have posted such gossip and have pointed fingers at those who have received the gift. Can it be they are trying to discredit the receiver? Can it mean that those who have received the gift will in fact tout Vista as being better than it actually is?
OK. If Microsoft really is giving away laptops, then I’m jealous. I’ve been testing Vista since it was in diapers. And every morning I wait anxiously for the UPS truck to pull up with my free gift. But so far nothing. 
Oh, well. I’m just happy I was able to get Vista RTM for free. And I’m happy to be able to test it on my own system to provide a realistic experience using a non-souped-up system. I’ll be making another report this week about using Vista and what I’ve found. And please be confident in my reporting that it will be fair and as unbiased as I can possibly make it.

Just to make sure there’s no misunderstanding, I was not offered a laptop. A bunch of other bloggers were, and have received either an Acer Ferrari 1000 or the 5000 model, with AMD dual core CPUs, via Microsoft and its PR agency, Edelman.

I seems you have the wrong end of the stick there.
“… that certain people on the Internet who have written articles about Vista in general (bloggers)” is not correct. http://www.laughingsquid.com got one, and the guy there says he doesn’t even write about Vista since he uses an Apple Mac.
I think you should check all facts and get the story behind it. For example read http://www.jasondunn.com/windows-vista-hardware-90 for an in-depth look at this.
You could check with myself as well, your fellow MVP.

Thanks to you both for your replies.
I enjoyed reading the article by Jason Dunn. Sounds like Jason has had some problems with his unit. Also I was not aware that desktops were also being sent. From what I have been reading it was laptops only. Just goes to show you how wrong rumors can be.

Before you waste $500 on VISTA ask yourself this do i download music, movies or pictures for FREE? if you answered yes than i recommend that you dont get sucked into vista. it is exactly the same as XP accept it looks cooler AND IT WAS DESIGNED TO BLOCK MUSIC AND MOVIE DOWNLOADING. think about it hundreds, thousands of bands trying to make money and everybody downloads thier songs off limewire or morpheus or where ever they can. and what about multimillionare movies, most people like you and i just download them. VISTA has come to gether with an idea, to block all websites that offer FREE DOWNLOADING, to block all P2P software. the other day i decided to upgrade my morpheus and to my surprise anything that i wanted to download would be blocked, i typed in a song, tried to download it and it says, THIS IS A COPY RIGHTED VERSION. they are taking over our entertainment. in 5 years vista will be installed on every computer in the world. go to your daily harvey norman or WOW catalogue and what do you see every single laptop, pc, now comes with vista. vista only came out like a month ago they would have to be mad to offer it already installed. maybe if you listen to the song DOWNLOAD THIS SONG by MC LARS you will understand.pass this on. tell everybody you know, about VISTA. just amagin, teens of the future having to pay for their music and movies.
as this web site suggests, everywhere you look there is freakin vista. we have no choice they are forcing us to upgrade, thats why all the new computers and laptops are coming out with vista, and then you have to go and buy xp because your not happy with vista. it sucks

Hey guys… I have a problem.. I had bought a laptop for my son but he lost it in his college. And I live in Nepal which lies in south of asia between China and India. Here in Nepal laptop price are very high. And I belong to middle-class people. My income just supports to run the family. I am having a hughe problem. My son needs one but I am not able to buy him one. Can anyone help me out… Please ….
