$150 Laptop - Update - And I Still Don’t Believe It!

I posted a topic on the alleged $150 laptop saying that I didn’t believe it could happen. (See posting here.) And I received a scathing comment in which I was accused of being ‘biased.’ Let’s examine the Web site of the company that is selling this $150 laptop and see what you think.
- As you look at the home page for Lite Appliance, you will notice that it is offering to sell us long distance phone service. Most reputable computer companies usually don’t do business this way.
- It also has ‘click-through’ ads on its site. Again, it seems it is more interested in generating income than on advertising its computers.
- When you click on the link for the LiteComputer, you are taken to a page with little or no information about its products. Yet its home page indicates that its products are already in use. Take a look at the smiling folks on this page who are using the LiteComputer already.
- It has a limited line of accessories it is selling. Which also appears to be more ‘click-through” ads.
- When you look at the Press Release page, it’s empty.
Take a look for yourself at the LiteAppliances Web site and see what you think.
Comments welcome.

I noticed that the picture of the mini tower configuration is a Dell Optiplex GX150 small form factor case.

You are right that the web site is not as current as to product specification sheets, press release links and current product pictures. We have been heads down getting the prototype launched at CES and dealing with the tremendous response to the LiteComputer. Send me an email and I will share specs and pictures until we are able to get the web site updated.

Thank you Jack for the photo’s and also the spec’s of the unit.
I will be doing a update posting after this weekend. The wife and I are just heading out the door to visit family this weekend.
Again, thank you for your response and the insight into your product that you have provided.
Best Regards, Ron

With respect to Fred Langa: I really feel Fred has misled his loyal readers and sold out to the new group known as Windows Secrets. His claims of being overwhelmed by success just don’t add up. I guess I’m just truly disappointed in the turn of events, as his newsletter was a most-welcome addition each week (sometimes twice a week). Now, it’s a twice-monthly issue containing some very boring articles geared to the rank novices out there. I’m no IT professional, but have been around long enough to want more than a beginners manual thrown at me.
Fred’s segment of the newsletter is quite small when compared to the old one, and his Q & A format is all but gone. As I said to him in a recent email, the current offering is on a par with columns I can browse through in PCMag.com (and others, of course). A very big disappointment for sure. Have you had any comments on this Ron, either Pro or Con? Thanks for a great service btw … I happened across your site via a Google Search!

Hi Don,
Just comments I have read in the forums. Most of it negative. I got Windows Secrets last newsletter and it is sparse to say the least.
