Microsoft Office Alternative – OpenOffice – And It's FREE!
After writing about what Google has done with Docs and Spreadsheets, and now the possibility of it using an Office-type software from Korea, it brought to mind another alternative software product.
Linux users are already familiar with OpenOffice since most Linux distributions use this software product as a replacement for Microsoft Office. But you may not be aware that OpenOffice is also available for other operating systems.
What is OpenOffice?
OpenOffice is a productivity suite of applications that include a word processor, spread sheet, presentation manager and a drawing program that are very similar of other office type products. And one major benefit is that OpenOffice supports the standard formats including those of Microsoft Office.
Support: OpenOffice provides operating system support for Windows, Mac OS X, Unix, and Linux. Plus over 65 languages are also supported.
I have used OpenOffice in various Linux distributions and have found it intuitive and easy to learn. If you have used any type of office suite software product, you will feel right at home with OpenOffice.
And it’s FREE !
