McAfee Site Advisor - FREE - Internet Explorer and Firefox

McAfee has a free site Advisor available for both Internet Explorer and Firefox that works with the most popular search engines.
What Is McAfee Site Advisor?
I think that this software would be best described as a tool, that can help protect us and our computer systems from Web sites that may include spyware, adware, and other unwanted software from being installed on our system behind our backs. The software also rates web sites that may have excessive pop-ups and spam. And in addition it can also protect us from going to Web sites that sponsor online fraud and attempt to steal our identities.
How it works
McAfee software searches the Web and locates Web sites that may contain some of the bad software described above. It then rates the Web sites using a simple system of green check mark, yellow exclamation mark, and a red X mark.
- Green check mark - Web site has been rated safe to view
- Yellow exclamation mark - not fully rated, use at your own peril
- Red X mark - indicates this Web site should not be visited.
When you do a search using search engines such as Google, Yahoo!, and MSN (which I personally tested) when the results appear, the rating system is displayed next to the description of the site.
How accurate are the ratings?
Good question. I can’t vouch for this software one way or another, since I have not used it long enough to make a informed decision one way or another. But I look at it this way. Any device or software that you can use on your computer that may help in keeping bad stuff off of your system is an added bonus. Plus it’s free!

I agree that any protection is better than a punch in the nose, but the site adviser red x’s some sites because they receive multiple E-mails. Site adviser is either leaving their machine wide open and or volunteering their name and E-mail address. I have used some red x sites for some time with no problems.

It’s a good add-on but not too reliable. I went on a “green” site and norton blocked a virus. Get web of trust from against institution oy http://www.mywot.com/en/download/ie OR try link scanner, (I didn’t try it)
that’s all I have to say for now
Just turn the security levels to at least medium high also
