Intel Keeps Pressure On AMD - Offers More Quad Core Chips

I recall being excited when I upgraded one of my PCs from a 33Mhz to 66Mhz. Now we have dual core chips for the desktop and quad core chips for the server market. Intel is keeping the pressure on AMD in the quad core server market with the introduction of five new chips.
Over in the dual core marketplace it seems that Intel and AMD are running neck and neck, and depending on what you read, AMD has a slight advantage here. Also of note is that AMD seems to be running behind on chips available to the consumer market since Dell is now using AMD chips as well.
I must admit I have fallen behind the chip curve since none of my systems are older than 1.5 years old, and I haven’t tried using one of the newer dual core chips currently being offered. So if you have any personal experience with the new dual core chips, please post a comment and share your experience with all of us.
Technology just keeps marching ahead!

I upgraded my old Athlon 2000XP system to a dual core E6300 - the most noticeable difference (apart from the massive speed hike) is that the system temperature peaks at just over 40 degrees Celsius - and that’s after a couple of hours intensive benchmarking, with stock cooling - compared with over 55 degrees and rising with the old 2000XP. I’m not looking to upgrade now for at least another 3-5 years….
