3 Free Games From Microsoft

Microsoft has three free games being offered for download from its Web site. Though I haven’t tried any of these, they all appear to be great time wasters for those who wish to waste a cold winter’s afternoon sharpening their gaming skills. And you can’t beat FREE! The games are:

  • Dink Smallwood – “Fantasy role-playing game (RPG) is a worthy adventure that allows you to use the keyboard or a joystick to control a teenage farmer who explores numerous locations, battles foes with might and magic, and takes on multiple quests from allied characters. The game can take a good 15 to 20 hours to finish, but you can save your game and return where you left off at any time. And when you’re done, you can experiment with the bundled “DinkEdit” tool to create your own adventures. The game also supports hundreds of downloadable modifications (“mods”) to extend your quests even further. “
  • Solitaire Games – “Download plenty more classic solitaire time-wasters without spending a dime. There are several free solitaire games on Windows Marketplace. Many of these games include rules and objectives (if needed), customizable backgrounds and deck styles, fun sound effects, and a smooth mouse-based interface for easy navigation between and during games.”
  • America’s Army – Special Forces – “Climb up the ranks to earn the coveted Green Beret status in this authentic military action game, which is played solo or with others online. The goal of the game is to provide a realistic account of life in the U.S. Army. Gamers are challenged to pass individual and collective training missions, and are then dropped into simulated anti-terrorist scenarios around the globe. Special Forces includes its predecessor—2002’s America’s Army: Operations—but the newer version lets multiplayer fans take on specific roles, including Weapons Specialist, Intelligence, Engineer, Communications, and Combat Medic. Be all that you can be with this high-quality “Teen”-rated freebie.”

This last game is over 700 MB, so I would recommend a broadband connection for downloading. All three games can be found here. Enjoy!
