Microsoft has offered a free backup utility for its popular Outlook program, since version 2000. This easy to use backup program incorporates itself into the Outlook program and will back up your .pst files that you specify. It can also be set to make backups at intervals specified by the user.
This current version available for download specifies it works with with versions 2002 and 2003. Though I believe it will work with version 2000 of Outlook as well.
Give it a try. It is available for download here.

Thanks for this.
I have tried this before but it seems like I always have problems when I want to add my backed up data back to a new install of XP/Office. Do you need to set up Outlook first with mail accounts (ISP/Gmail?Hotmail etc) or does the backu set all this up.
It seems that when ever I do this backup I end up with multiple personal folders and sub folders in Outlook.
Are there instructions around to show how to back up mail to move to a new installation. Also , I am thinking of getting Vista and Office 2007, I need to move mail from XP/office2003 to this, any instructions on this move to a new install?
cheers from Australia,

GoldCoaster,
Here is a link from MS on how to use the backup tool.
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HA010875321033.aspx
I used the backup tool when I transfered over my .pst folder from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007, and did end up with one dupe folder which I deleted.
And ISP info - in my case it was. However, I have had some instances in using the tool when this was not the case. Rule of thumb - write down your settings from the old version of Outlook just in case. And then manually setup the accounts if need be.
I hope this helps.
All the best.
