Install Backup on Windows XP Home Edition

Posted by on Nov 27, 2006 | 2 Comments

Are you using Windows XP Home edition?  You may have noticed that No Backup icon is present on the Start menu in Windows XP Home Edition, nor is Backup listed in Add Remove Programs.  You must do a manual install to use the utility. You must have the original Windows XP CD in order for this procedure to work. Some systems do not come with a original Windows CD and it must be obtained from the PC manufacture. Some manufactures will provide the Windows CD free of charge while others may charge a shipping fee. I highly recommend you obtain the originally Windows CD. The Windows XP Professional edition does include the backup utility.

To Manually Install the Backup Utility
  • Insert the Windows XP Home Edition CD Rom and navigate to CD-ROM Drive:\VALUEADD\MSFT\NTBACKUP

  • Double-click the Ntbackup.msi file to start the wizard that installs Backup

  • When the wizard is complete, click Finish.

That’s it! Your done.
