Windows Vista to Offer Improved Reliability & Performance

According to Microsoft, Windows Vista should add improved reliability and performance enhancements. It states that “Windows Vista is designed to be more reliable and faster than the Microsoft Windows XP operating system. Ultimately, these advantages help users be more productive and decrease support costs.”
Microsoft also states that Windows Vista will boot faster than previous versions of Windows. Hmmm… I’m running Windows Vista RC2 (Release Candidate) on a dual boot with Windows XP Professional with Service Pack #2. That means that both operating systems are using the same hardware which is a home brew AMD 64 bit 3000, 1G RAM, 250 Seagate Sata hard disk, Sony 16x CD/DVD recorder, and a NVidia FX 5200 - 256MB video card all connected to a Asus mobo.
My personal observations are that both operating systems take about the same time to boot. My guess is that there is a possibility that the final version of Windows Vista may have some features enhanced to improve boot time. But over the years, my experience has been that boot times are dependant on the hardware used as well as the latest updated drivers. I am usinf the latest Vista drivers that are currently available, but I am sure these divers will be improved once Windows Vista hits the streets.
Improved responsiveness is another claim made by Microsoft which states that there will be less reboots and that there will be improved diagnostics to keep the system running. Though these improvements may help businesses that employee a IT department, most home users will notice little if any changes. Personally I am pleased with Windows XP and I can’t recall the last time I had a system freeze up or had to do a reboot. YMMV - your mileage may vary.
