Windows Vista SP1 Beta In The Next Couple Of Weeks (Maybe)

  • No Related Post

Weather in SeoulLooks like I was right in my earlier post - I’ll believe it when I see it.

Now, it seems that Microsoft is about to release the first SP1 beta for MS Windows Vista - in another week or two though (not when it was originally forecast - for sometime this week.)

However, that doesn’t mean you’ll be able to get your hands on it. As a matter of fact, unless you are part of the Microsoft Developer Network, or a Technet subcriber, you won’t be able to get your hands on it at all (unless someone leaks a copy).

You should probably wait anyway until MS Releases the full SP1, not a beta. As I mentioned before, I generally don’t like betas, esp. from MS. It’s just too painful trying to fix a broken Windows installation because I did something stupid - like install a beta, especially with Windows Vista. I already have to deal with a BSOD on the first boot after any security update. Why this happens, I have no idea, but when I shut down after the BSOD, and then reboot immediately, it boots right up - every time. So, I scratch my head on that, and figure one day I’ll get off my lazy butt and try to fix the stupid thing. I think I’m really just hoping everything holds together until the full SP1 comes out.

Which leads me to this:

When is the ACTUAL SP1 going to come out? According to the Windows Vista Team Blog, that should be sometime in the 1st quarter of 2008. Earlier predictions estimated sometime in November, but I don’t know if that was Microsoft’s prediction, or an outside source in this case, and I’m too lazy to research it ATM - so I can’t say here we go with another round of promises for delivery dates, with constant push backs to later dates by MS - though I am thinking it. Well, I’ll stop thinking it and wait patiently.

Now, if I don’t see SP1 by the middle of March 2008, then of course, I’ll say it. MS is at it again! Hopefully not though. All we can do, is wait and see… whee… As I said earlier though - I’ll believe it when I see it.

Why even bother using windows vista?!
Why even wait for service pack 1?!
Why even bother buying the rip off os?

Just face the faqs! don’t use vista, wait for service 1. then read the reviews that are using service 1.then if they get bad reviews.
boycought microsoft all together. i’v switch over to linux. so yea. screw ms,they suck.

#1, LInux is gonna rule the earth.
#2.Apple gonna rule the earth.
#3ms gonna fail,and go bankrupt.
#4google will make a google os? will maybe, ill see it,when i belieive it!

Jim:

While I do think that Linux and Apple are going to gain ground, MS is way to big and entrenched in the market to give up the ghost. Face it: Right now , MS has over 80% of the computer industry. Period MS Server solutions used by big businesses will continue to be used by them. MS will also work out the bugs in Vista, though it may not be anytime soon, and it may not be this upcoming service pack - as a matter of fact, it might be the next Windows release - but then again, they may work out bugs in Vista, only to have new bugs in the new OS.

Microsoft also doesn’t create operating systems for you or me. They create operating systems for big business. We are just a side note. As long as business is happy with MS, and as long as they continue to use MS products, they are going to want an OS that is compatible with what they already have. You and I could complain till the cows come home. We could get all our friends to switch to Linux, or Apple. But that won’t stop MS from succeeding as long as big business continues to use MS products.

As for Vista, I use it, but then, I was more or less forced to at the time because I could not get my hands on a legal copy of XP. So far, my experience with Vista, has been pretty good, and I have had no more trouble with it than I have had with XP.

Bash away if you must, but unless you work for MS and have inside information, I wouldn’t be so sure that MS is going to fail.
