Vista SP1 Beta?

Looks like Microsoft may be releasing a beta of SP1 sometime this week, in case you haven’t heard. My take on it is: I’ll believe it when I see it. With most things except for religion, I’ve found that it’s just better that way. Here’s the link.

Even if they do release a beta this week, keep in mind, it’s still just a beta. My take on betas? Unless you are a developer or a masochist, it’s just not worth the hassle. Most betas (at least from the aforementioned company) do more to harm your system than fix what’s wrong with it in the first place.

Actually, what is wrong with your system? It’s got MS Windows on it - that’s what’s wrong with it.

All kidding aside, driver support issues aside, buggy software issues aside, viruses, trojans, backdoors, rootkits, malware, and spyware aside, Windows is a fine operating system - if it’s installed correctly. On a clean system. Before you load anything else. Including office. Yeah, I’m serious.

I have used EVERY flavor of Windows, from 3.1 on. Remember Windows for Workgroups 3.11? No? You’re too young - or you’re blessed with ignorance. Actually, WFW 3.11 was, perhaps, even more stable than any other version of Windows I’ve ever used. Wasn’t very nice and shiny though - no spit and polish and all that. Certainly couldn’t run today’s hardware and software. Still, it was pretty stable.

The price you pay for modern equipment that can run modern software is a buggy OS. Don’t tell me to switch to Apple though. I’m just not an Apple person. And for me, Linux is just not what I want. I guess I like Windows - and I’m a masochist.

But no, I won’t be installing THAT particular beta on my Vista system - no matter how many BSODs I have!
