Windows 7 or Snow Leopard…?

Both companies, Microsoft and Apple, have announced their new operating systems: Windows 7 and Mac OS X Snow Leopard. With both companies competing for sales, Apple has proved to be a clear winner with OS X Leapord over Microsoft’s disappointing Windows Vista. With the release of a new operating system from both companies, it will be interesting to see which one is a bigger breakthrough.
Microsoft has claimed that they will be releasing Windows 7 in the fall of 2009 to early 2010. Could this be yet another premature release by Microsoft of an operating system that is clearly not ready for the market yet? Microsoft doesn’t think so because they have already released a beta version, and plan to release seven versions of Windows 7. Some features include a totally new taskbar, jump lists, Internet Explorer 8, and better device management.
Apple on the other hand, has given no definite date or suspected release, but has simply said that OS X Snow Leopard will ship in “about a year”. Apple claims that Snow Leopard will build on the innovations of Leopard. In addition Snow Leopard will decrease the footprint of Mac OS X, increasing efficiency.
Will both of these releases boost each company’s sales while revolutionizing their operating systems?
Which release do you think will be a bigger breakthrough?

OS X has been better at dealing with both 32 and 64 bit hardware.
If Intel had not been in such a rush to get the Core Duo out and had another six months to make it true 64 bit, OS X would already be there. Actually Apple could have been there in 2004 if IBM had been able to make a mobile version of the G5 for the PowerBooks.

@GRPeng, I’m wondering what you mean about Core2 and 64 bit.
As for Windows 7 versus OS X. Certainly OS X will be better from a technical standpoint, as Apple is an innovator where Microsoft is merely putting some icing on the manure that was / is Vista, in order to make it somewhat palatable.
[technical point] I am not an Apple fanboy, I have 6 computers using Windows, but I know that Microsoft has purchased their innovations from other companies - it has always been that way - when they weren’t outright thieving them.
