Mac Mini Mystery?

I’m sure many of you are familiar with the Mac mini, Apple’s lower end mini desktop, which offers affordability yet still some power and versatility. Well, rumors have been spreading around as to its next release since it has not been updated for some time now. Apple’s last version of the Mac mini came out in 2007, and since then, a new Mac mini has been nowhere to be seen. Many speculated that there would be a new release at MacWorld 2009, but there was no talk of even an upcoming release of a Mac mini in Phil Schiller’s Keynote Address. This disappointed some, and confused others. It might be possible that new products will return with the return of Steve Jobs, but this is also unsure. With 2009 being the first year in six years for sales to decrease, Apple needs something new to reboost its sales. Many consumers are waiting to buy based on the rumors of new Mac minis and iMacs on the way. Finally, I think Apple is well overdue to update their Mac minis, and if they are really in need of sales, they should update their iMac as well.

What are your thoughts?

Should Apple release a new Mac mini and or iMacs?

I do not see why they sell any. You can buy a laptop with nearly identical specs as the current Mac mini for about $200 less. It is a terrible value. People buy them because it is the cheapest Mac and lie to themselves that it is a good deal just because it comes with iLife.

I disagree with GRPeng. I have a Mac Mini and use it as a media center PC. I have it output at 1280×720 and it runs great. It’s a full PC with both OS X and Vista. I have slingbox and with access to Hulu, YouTube, and many more, I canceled cable. Sure it’s expensive then a Apple TV but - in my opinion - has more options to do than Apple TV.

I’d love an updated iMac- it’s the only reason I haven’t yet bought a new one… I’m just waiting, waiting.

Agreed in full with mister Schultz. There’s nothing that comes even close to a media center (Playstation 3 being a distant second place). Yes, and it is upgradable, if you have the skills for it. Buy you may not have, GRPeng. You have been comparing Apples and Onions…

I have owned a mini for nearly two years now. No complaints. It fits into a small corner of my desk and does everything I need it to do. If I had wanted a huge @$$ iMac then I would have purchased one. The same goes for a notebook. For me the mini is a perfect fit.

Release a new Mac Mini? Why, sure Apple ought to. I understand the Mac Mini has been on its good behavior and ought to qualify for parole. Speak out at its parole hearing to aid in its release…

I have been using a Mac Mini for years and have no complaints. I have several other models as well, but the mini fits into my media center perfectly. Until I can fit an iMac into my media center i’ll stick with the Mini… Can’t wait to see what Apples comes out with next…

The mini must live! It’s a great little machine, and I still want to get one for my live stream. new iMacs would be cool too, although I wouldn’t be getting one of those.

You overpay for an underperforming computer, and then pay more to upgrade it? Here drink some more Flavor Aid. For about the same money you could have gotten a much more powerful iMac. The PS3 has a huge advantage of being a full HD media center and Blu-ray is starting to take off as the premiere format.

No I don’t think they should waste the time and money on creating another over priced computer. I very satisfied with my PC. It can do things that a Mac Mini or even a Mac Pro cant. Its not the PC on my Geeks Profile.

I ran Mac OS X on a $1200 Dell better than I’ve seen it run on $3000 Macs

@David you are wright .i agree with you.
