GAO Estimates Pricey Gas Costs Consumers $20 BILLION This Year

Pricey gasoline costs U.S. consumers extra $20 billion or, more aptly, we didn’t even get a kiss with that *#@!

Wow, the impact of the price of gasoline on the American psyche is enough; does this really say it also cost our wallets $20 BILLION? Yes, it does.

How can the oil companies think that Americans will tolerate these prices? There have been no natural disasters, no major loss of oil supply, no REASONABLE rationale for these prices. It is outright GOUGING.

What can we do about it?

  • COMPLAIN LOUDLY to your congressman, senator, governor, neighbors, friends, family, etc.
  • Get those people to COMPLAIN LOUDLY as well, etc.
  • Cut back on your consumption, plan your trips wisely, and only buy the gas you need - do not fill your tank
  • DO NOT BUY A NEW FUEL EFFICIENT CAR. The U.S. automakers own such huge chunks of the oil companies that they are probably in collusion on these prices to increase their already paltry sales (count this as Conspiracy Theory #1)
  • Did I already say COMPLAIN LOUDLY? Oh, yeah, I did. Well, let me emphasize that part again
  • Call radio shows in your area - even the national ones - and tell them you are not pleased
  • Enough about European gas prices. They are so heavily taxed it doesn’t count as an argument anymore - AND WE ARE AMERICANS, not Europeans - it is our God-given right to cheap gas…
  • Buy a new computer - it always makes me feel better. Bet it does you, too.

Ok, that’s my rant for today. And, yes, I do feel better now.

If you are a believer in Keynesian economics, the thing to do is buy less gas, and encourage everyone else to do the same. It would send one heck of a message to the boys at Exxon-Mobil and all other producers if NO ONE did anything this wekend that they DID NOT ABSOLUTELY have to do. Sort of like a ’60s style sit-in,only with cars.

I may not neccessarily be a Keynesian follower, but I do agree with your thoughts on this issue. Like the spam that flows around about a “GAS OUT” , it may not impact their earnings, but “might” get their attention.
