Android Jelly Bean introduced a number of interesting features to the Android platform, the most noticeable of which is Google Now, an integrated personal assistant (much like Siri) that keeps track of your location and provides you with helpful information when and where it is most relevant. One feature of Google Now adored by sports fans is the Sports card, which gives you info on games being played by your favorite teams before, during, and after the game.
Unfortunately, teams are sometimes added based on your searches rather than what you really want to have pop up. This can be inconvenient when you frequently search terms that just happen to match that of a sports team. Here in Texas, searching “cowboys” or “texans” will give you information about ranchers and locals, but it could also indicate to Google that you’re a fan of the Dallas Cowboys or Houston Texans.
Let’s say you have a team that you do enjoy following, and you’d like to add them to a card so you can be kept in the loop whenever that team might be playing. Adding or removing a team to Google Now is very simple.
Here’s how it’s done.
The first step you’ll want to take is to get into Google Now. This is done via the faux text field at the top of the home screen. You can’t enter text into that field (for whatever reason) but it will get you directly to your Google Now cards.
Next, scroll all the way down to the bottom of the screen and hit the three dots, followed by Settings. Once you’re in the Settings menu, select Google Now.
On this screen, you’ll see all the different types of cards made available by Google Now. Scroll down to the Sports area and select it.
Here, you’ll see options that indicate when you want the cards to appear on your notifications panel, the priority level, and which teams you’d like to follow. You can add a team by selecting Add team… and typing in the name of your favorite professional team.
To remove a team, select it from the menu on the primary Sports options page and choose Remove. You can also turn off Sports notifications entirely using the toggle switch at the top of the page.
