Verizon To Announce New 4G LTE Android Phones at CES

Thinking about buying or giving an Android phone for the holidays? It might be your best option to hold off a month, give that special someone an IOU or just promise that your gift is coming but you need to wait for it to be released.
It’s pretty obvious that Verizon’s Android lineup is stale–the Incredible, Droid 2, and Droid X have all been out since early this year and the Fascinate since late summer, but that’s for a good reason–a bunch of new phones are in the pipeline for Verizon, set to be launched alongside the carrier’s new 4G LTE network at CES next month.

Verizon finally went official today, tweeting that, yes, new LTE phones will be shown off at CES in January. We don’t have a lot of information about the specific models being unveiled, but the rumors are that we could be seeing the HTC Merge, Incredible HD, or maybe even one of the fancy new LG dual-core beasts.
What exactly is 4G LTE, you ask? Well, 4G has been one of the most confusing buzzwords of this year, as each major cell provider in the USA has rolled out or plans to roll out a “4G Network,” but all of them are based on different technology. Verizon’s version of this tech is supposedly the fastest of the bunch with speeds from 5 all the way to 12 Mbps. Whether a phone can actually deliver on speeds that fast remains to be seen, but it’s certainly going to be faster than the current 3G network.
It’s rumored that these new devices will also come with an added monthly fee similar to T-Mobile and Sprint’s $10 surcharge, but it will definitely be worth it for the faster speed. These new devices will surely be worth waiting for, as well. Keep your eye open for more news about Verizon’s LTE phones once CES starts on Jan. 3–Lockergnome will be in Vegas with all the coverage you could ask for!
