The Great Toboggan Rescue

Well, it has finally decided to cool off here. Today my son wanted to wear his “puffy” coat and toboggan to preschool. We dropped him off and I took his hat. I didn’t think that he would need it when I came to pick him up. His brother decided to wear it back to the van, but instead of wearing it he started tossing it in the air. We went out the door and under the catwalk. The hat went up but didn’t come down. It was like that scene in “I Love Lucy” when she is tossing pizzas and one gets stuck on the ceiling. I asked my son, “Where is the toboggan?”. He says, “Up there.”, and gestures to the top of the overhang. I look up and see the ear flap of the toboggan flop down over the edge of the gutter.
Now this overhang is pretty tall and I am pretty short. I went back inside the school to get a ladder. When I came back out someone had parked right in the spot that I needed to place the ladder. He came out shortly and moved his car and then he came back to help. He climbed up the ladder and using a long-handled feather duster, tried to get the toboggan down. By this time, we had drawn a few spectators. The toboggan was in the gutter and it was very hard to get it out. As he tried to get it out, the big fluffy end of the feather duster came off and was stuck in the gutter also. Finally, we had to get a coat hanger to remove the toboggan and the feather duster.
But all’s well that ends well. We have the toboggan back safe and sound. Now my son will not have to go through the winter with cold ears.
