Gnomedex - Juggling The Onslaught

Gnomedex is like the big screen vs. your home theater or the stadium game vs. the television set. You can smell the popcorn and hotdogs, talk to drunk people in person as well as have an opportunity to see the animals, not in their natural environ, but behind the various veneers they use to keep the general public from getting too close. It is here we came, not seeking more info on AJAX but our own little twitter. Not a what are you doing, but where are you as a human?

We got to interact with a handful of people, here are a couple you might be interested in hearing what they had to say;

Schlomo Rabinowitz talks about the mountain of content we are creating and the unedited life cast. His premise is that it is still about the craft. Kosso talks about meeting the love of his life on twitter then taking the technology elevation love train all the way to Ustream. Kosso pre-dated twitter building a blog for 2nd Life and now there is Treedia, his new Social Multi-Media Networking feed management platform that will organize and connect directories for any type of media content through the Zen of OPML.

We thought Gnomedex would be a good place for some IPTV Participatory television and we definitely found it. Story lines by and for Geeks in the global blogging community. A place to come watch, interact and develop the viewer’s own interviews, discussions and topics with blog industry leaders as a viewer mash up of this particular knowledge culture. We thought we would run with the open transparent approach, which is becoming more and more the working norm in this geek space as a part of the tribal dynamic. This openness would be one of the ingredients that would craft the evolution of the show. Who can tell you more about the proper way to do this than than the viewers? And boy, did they tell us.

Sometimes when the flit hits the sham it’s best to let Mick and Keith do the talking;

"Saint Paul the persecutor
Was a cruel and sinful man
Jesus hit him with a blinding light
And then his life began

Augustin knew temptation
He loved women, wine and song
And all the special pleasures
Of doing something wrong

And could you stand the torture
And could you stand the pain
Could you put your faith in Jesus
When you're burning in the flames

And I do believe in miracles
And I want to save my soul
And I know that I'm a sinner
I'm gonna die here in the cold

John the Baptist was a martyr
But he stirred up Herod's hate
And Salome got her wish
To have him served up on a plate

I thought I heard an angel cry
I thought I saw a teardrop
falling from his eye
I thought I saw an angel cry

You'll never make a saint of me"

-Mick & Keith SAINT OF ME - Rolling Stones

One of the things we found out was that our “rough and ready” approach to the story jangled some nerves and added some unexpected color to the underlying commentary. Oh well, we never set out to be perfect, or said it would be easy, so we just left it “like scars in fine leather” proof of authenticity. This may start the privacy debate all over again, but that is not my intention here. We apologized for our missteps [real and imagined] and asked to initiate a conversation or dialogue on the subject which has been met by the equivalent of a singular burp.

So it is here that I would like to make my personal apology to anyone who felt invaded in a personal way. For this I am sorry.

Now we continue to push forward through the jungle. With a well placed foot in the door we are taking a glance at everything you always wanted to know about ” geek specific tribal reality”, technology, science and culture, from the frustrations of a corporate “straight job” to living a “free range” geek’s dream.

Maybe people will buzz by the chat room, a corner in the Internet party where people come to “talk outside the noise” of the echo chamber. A place to create context and organize information, synthesize imagination, beauty and content using social media tools to deliver high quality trans media solutions to help create a better reality. Or something…

A geek dream stream through modern life with the continuous reach for autonomy and freedom as we juggle the onslaught of knowledge cultures, collective identities and a multiplicity of world views. Really the live stream is just another component that fills a place in the work flow. A place you can go, when for whatever reason you can’t reload the tape, there is the ability to grab history, no matter how trivial. Just like a security cam waiting to bust the case wide open, the gems may be based on a happy accident. Not only is the craft still there, but a continuous work in progress based on your desires and our collective ability to bring them to realization. Whether broadcasting LIVE via the Internet, or staging transmedia syndication, the audience has the chance to participate in this interactive experience giving and getting immediate feedback from other viewers as well as LIVE participants on the show. The feedback also helps craft what YOU want to see for both present time and future content, live or achieved.

So, as Saint Paul & John say;

"Oh yeah, all right
Are you gonna be in my dreams tonight?
Love you, love you...
And in the end the love you take
Is equal to the love you make."

It’s the new way… it’s up to you… in this first primodial spot in the history of live streaming, it is going to be messy and sometimes experimental… as anyone who has ever played with a chemistry set knows, sometimes the experiment foams over and makes a mess. Perhaps it it time for some rules of engagement.
