The Associated Press (via AOL) reports:

“Microsoft Corp. said Wednesday it has withdrawn the two remaining appeals related to an EU antitrust order that it now says it will stop fighting.”

Microsoft finally dropped its appeal against the huge fines (280.5 million euros) given by the EU in July 2006 for not sharing its technical information with rivals. Microsoft said it paid the fine in October 2006.

It also mentioned it is trading its secrets on an Open Source basis. “We believe its important at this stage to focus all of our energies on complying with our legal obligations and strengthening our constructive relationship with the European Commission,” said Erich Andersen, European general counsel for Microsoft.

Microsoft didn’t learn from its past mistakes, so it fumbles once again. Let’s pray this is the last time!

Whee, at last, AMD thought about launching a new processor named Phenom to the desktop market. It has native quad core, with frequencies between 2.1GHz, and 2.8. AMD is surely gonna place its bet on the 2.4 GHz version, being a sweet spot, and probably launching a new price war between Intel and AMD.The 3GHz CPU will be delayed until 2008, all of these versions working on the AM2+ socket

As a little note:The Phenom processor is used by Ferrari on its F1 cars, so let’s all pray that this processor is as fast as the cars.

The government agency hopes to attract more young kids passionate about computers to work in the IT domain.I personally think it’s a great idea, and if it truly works, I believe more country’s will adopt it

Dell and HP hold half of the US PC market according to a survey from IDC.Dell holds 28%, while HP gets second place with 24.3%.Apple is third on the list with 6.3%, the top beeing completed by Gateway and Toshiba with 5.2% each.Dell deliverd 5.01 million PC’s in Q3 of this year, recording a loss of 4.8% since the last Q3 2006.HP sold 4.35 million PC’s, and registered 16.9% growth.

The number of PC’s sold worldwide was 66.85 million, registering a growth rate of 15.5%.The demand of laptops and PC’s was high due to the increasing number of middle/low companies.The growth rate was asociated with the drop in the desktop market in the US.

Acer has become the third worlwide seller of PC’s, after aquiring Gateway, they recorded a 59.2% improvement for the PC market on a global scale

I really have been thinking about buying a Mac.But it’s really hard for me beeing a PC user all my life.I’ve heard the Mac Mini is great for users making a transition from PC to Mac so I thought I’d give it a try.Browsing the Apple store, I saw the 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 160 gig hard drive.

But(and yes, there is a but) i have to buy a new display, keyboard, speakers etc.So why dont I have a look at the MacBook.If I draw the line, i would end up  at the Mini’s price

So there it is.I’ve made up my mind.The base line product has pretty good stats for what I’m looking to do with my Mac, it’s portable, takes less space and all the advantages a laptop can bring.

Now we come to the “budget” side of the story.I live in Romania, and we only have 1 official Mac Store and the local price here is 38.000 RON (about 1600 USD Dollars), and on the UK store, the price is about 1100 US Dollars.500 bucks is a huge gap i really can’t aford at the present moment.

OSX 10.5 really looks promising too
I’m awating your sugestions on a nearby store,or on new Mac’s i should consider buying

Many Romanian children never saw a personal computer, not even at school.Statistics show that in Romania, 55% of the schools, dont have a internet access.

Due to severe conditions in  the coutry side, not even banks go out empty, but so are the schools.In 2005 the Romanian education lost 9000 teachers.

There is a small village near Orăştie, where not even electricity entered people’s houses.

It’s really sad, that in the year 2007, a fair amount of people never heard of a PC.We can’t imagine a world without computers now, or the internet for that cause.

Now i’m not here to only speak about my own contry, but i’m here to help others out with they’r tech problems, and try to bring technology near them

I would like to say a warm welcome to everyone here at Lockergnome, and especially to Chris, who adviced me to make a blog here.It’s a great oportunity for me to be able to post here and I hope I will do well :).

It would be fair to introduce myself:I’m Alex, 16 year old Highschool student, studying telecomunications. I live in Romania(you probably never heard of my coutry before :P) but i’ll give you a hint:”Dracula”.I’m a huge fan of technology, my first days with a personal computer marked my life

The reason i ended up here? I was asking Chirs some advices regarding a blog,and how I could be discoverd by other people around the web.

I try to “socialise” people with technology, and mainly, development coutrys like the place where I live.Sure, internet is getting popular day by day here, but most teens dont know anything besides opening a IM client maybe, and a web browser.There are brilliant people who can do much more than they can now, and that’s with the help of technology.

My blog will contain several survey’s a month, and trough it, I will try, to familiarize new people in the IT domain and not only
