HP and Dell hold half of the US market for PC

Dell and HP hold half of the US PC market according to a survey from IDC.Dell holds 28%, while HP gets second place with 24.3%.Apple is third on the list with 6.3%, the top beeing completed by Gateway and Toshiba with 5.2% each.Dell deliverd 5.01 million PC’s in Q3 of this year, recording a loss of 4.8% since the last Q3 2006.HP sold 4.35 million PC’s, and registered 16.9% growth.
The number of PC’s sold worldwide was 66.85 million, registering a growth rate of 15.5%.The demand of laptops and PC’s was high due to the increasing number of middle/low companies.The growth rate was asociated with the drop in the desktop market in the US.
Acer has become the third worlwide seller of PC’s, after aquiring Gateway, they recorded a 59.2% improvement for the PC market on a global scale

According to the latest numbers from Gartner, worldwide computer shipments increased 14.4% over the same period last year. In the U.S., computer shipments increased 4.7% over the same period last year.
In comparison, Apple has seen a 37.2% increase in growth over the same period. As a result, Apple’s individual marketshare has grown from 6.2% to 8.1% year-over-year. This places Apple in 3rd place in U.S. marketshare, trailing Dell (29.1%) and HP (25.7%).
