3G Networking on Phones

So tell me something, why does everyone care so much about this 3G network? Yes, it’s fast, very fast. Okay, sure, maybe that’s why, I’ll give you that. My real question may just be this, is it a good reason to dictate your device?
For example, the greatly promoted and popular Iphone does not have the 3G, it only has EDGE. Yet at the same time, it still manages to load full web pages with ease, and play you tube videos with great quality. In fact, other great phones, like the Blackberry Pearl also have to settle for the EDGE network, but I have also owned a pearl, and it always worked great for me, with plenty enough speed even in today’s world of hurry.
The 3G devices I have used may have worked quicker… But If I have to use the word “May”, is it really enough of a reason to choose a device based only on that specific specification?
Another thing to keep in mind is your coverage area as well. In my area, I get full bars almost everywhere. Now, for someone who gets only half bars, then yes, the 3G speed may matter a lot more.
My advice, go into a cell store and try the demo phones, and pick one you think works best for you, EDGE or 3G reguardless. Open your mind, and don’t say no until you try it. Don’t look over the iPhone just because it’s on Edge, yet at the same time, don’t look over the BlackJack just because it’s not the iPhone. Try’em both.
