The problems continue to add up for Dell, the beleaguered former #1 PC company. In this weeks episode we find that hanging your shingle with another sinking monolith likely spells doom.  I know when I look over the Horizon I don’t see Vista in my future. Heck it took a couple years for the Redmond runts to make XP Pro secure (enough) for me to buy.

I found that Dell is fighting back, offering a web site experience and asking customers what they can do to change things, but IMHO it is lip service and not a true attempt to win back customers. Direct2Dell feels more like an attempt to use blogging for PR purposes than for real problem solving.

In this case I would love to be wrong, but what I have seen so far is they have built up a tremendous amount of animosity that is really bubbling over strong right now.  I still can’t believe that new computers don’t have the option of coming with Windows XP Pro.  Screw Vista. I don’t have any interest in it until I have seen it battle tested, and I am not the only one…

Even MIT doesn’t think Vista is ready for prime time. But if a recent column  on TECH.BLORGE is any indication, I believe the dashboard light just came on.  According to the column, at least 50% of desktops deployed in corporate America don’t have the minimum system requirements to run the new operating system. So if you are a purveyor of computer hardware, and you wanted to increase sales, helping Microsoft shove Vista down our collective throats would certainly have some allure. Of course it also screams of the same nappy-headed stupid-think so common with the corporate leviathans of our day, but at least it poses some logic, however crude and irresponsible.
