Can music become TOO popular?

  • No Related Post

Record labels churn out several albums every year. But before they relaease an album, they usually release a single or an EP to radio stations to play prior to the release. As a result, these songs gain popularity almost immediately that stations are being flooded with requests. They get played repeatedly to the point that you can hear the same song every hour that passes. This may be good news for the record companies, but I don’t like it. Hearing the the song over and over again with other people singing along (sometimes even out of tune) makes it…… well i don’t know the term, but bottomline is, it makes me less eager to listen.

I may like mainstream music, but i’m not that much of a fan to listen to it 24/7(i’m exaggerating). I listen to music for it’s lyrics, style, genre etc. not because it’s what radio stations are playing, or because it’s popular atm.
