What’s good backup Software?

I’ve asked this question a lot of times, because I seriously need a backup program. Without one, I’m just setting myself up for disaster. I haven’t lost data by a hard drive crash…yet, but without backing up my data, every day increases the risk that I will lose all of it. I have lots of data and attempting the copy files over to another drive using Windows Explorer is a painful task because you have to wait for it to copy and you can’t leave the computer because Windows Explorer asks if you want to copy certain files over and on XP it will stop the copy process until you click an action.

I’ve tried finding backup software, but the trouble I had was the free software didn’t work or the paid software was expensive. I always wondered why there just wasn’t a free backup software, but one day I finally found software that was free and works as good as the paid software. It’s called Cobian Backup. This software takes some getting used to, but once you play around with it and understand how it works, it does exactly what it’s supposed to do. It doesn’t crash, at least I haven’t had it crash, and it backs up my data every night. It also supports incremental backup and FTP backup.

I use it at home and my office both for backups and imaging servers. Sweet utility and it just works. 100X better than Ghost and can capture images for servers realtime so zero downtime.

At home, it is even easier and is truly set it and forget it. I just partition an external USB drive (one for FULL and one for DATA), created 2 tasks in True image Home and forget about it except to check once in a while to make sure the backups are running. You can even do integrity checks on your backup for peace of mind and this is so simple to work with.

Check it out….

Hello,

I’ve had good experiences using NovaStor’s Novaback software under MS-DOS, IBM OS/2 and Windows Vista. You might want to look at that, especially if you want to backup to tape.

I’m using Site-Vault for backing up several websites and I’m happy with it. It’s a bit expensive but works good.
