I never knew how easily and securing I could control my computer over the internet. It’s amazing how I lived without this program for so long and yet I use it almost weekly. LogMeIn is a program that installs on your computer to allow remote control using another computer with internet access and a browser to access the host computer. On the host computer, you just set up an account, which is free, on their website and add the computer to your account. Their software will install either using ActiveX or Java depending on the browser and the computer is added. On another computer with internet access, you can log-in to your account and access the computer remotely. The nice thing about LogMeIn is that it requires a password for your account and a password from your computer, so basically you need to enter 2 passwords. This is all done in the browser by the way, which the only installation you need is an ActiveX control, Java applet, or Firefox extension.

LogMeIn has a lot of features besides just remotely controlling your computer. If you decide that you need remote printing and transferring files to the remote computer, you can upgrade to their paid version instead and you will have these additional features, there’s also a trial you can select just before buying to see how it works. Still, the free version is a pretty good option for most people because of how easy it is to setup and run.
