Increase features on your Router

Ever wondered if you could increase the features on your router to make it like a $200 router instead of a $60 router. Well with open-source firmware called DD-WRT, you can! This firmware is the most advanced firmware I have ever seen. It allows QoS (Quality of Service), DDNS (Dynamic DNS), Wireless Signal Boost, and HotSpot administration. The router I have is a WRT-54GL, which I got after researching that alternate firmware could be put on the router to increase it’s features. Another router will work, but you must be careful to prevent “bricking” your router. Bricking your router basically is when the router becomes unusable. I wrote a very easy tutorial on how to put DD-WRT on your router on my website so that you will have the least chance of “bricking” your router. The link is: http://www.andybswebsite.com/ddwrt1.php. On the website is an included Wiki of all the features available in the firmware along with all the routers that are supported. If you are serious about how your network works, this is great firmware to install. I’ve been using it for a year and a half now and it has been stable and I never reboot the router.
